City and landscape
The flood disaster in July 2021 destroyed large parts of
the Ahr valley. A year later, the landscape still offered
insights into the enormous power of nature and the
helplessness of unsecured areas of land on the water's
edge. As part of a week-long excursion to the region,
individual villages were meticulously examined after an
initial overall impression. The findings led to a
discussion of landscape and technological flood
protection. The overarching goal of the project was to
present a future-oriented design for the reconstruction
of the analyzed locations, which would serve as
inspiration for the actual reconstruction. This included
flood protection as well as infrastructural and tourist
development and the optimization of urban structures.
